Team Igloo a local Long Island based Travel Lacrosse club won its second National Championship in two years at the Dicks Sporting Goods National Championships in Florida.   Igloo Arctic Blast is a class of 2022 boys playing the U11 Division and competed against some of the most talented teams across the country to be crowned U11 Champs. This marks Team Igloo’s back to back wins in the U11 Division and begins a tradition for Team Igloo for quality teams coming up through their program.

The Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions is a three-day grueling event with Team Igloo Arctic Blast starting the tournament on Tuesday, December 29th in pool play posting victories over Chaos Lacrosse (Texas Team), South Tampa Tarpons, Valley Select (Virginia), and one overtime loss to the Arden Diamondback (Maryland). Continuing onto Wednesday, December 30, 2015 with wins over Mad Cats (Indiana), and Madlax (Georgia) to end the pool play 5 and 1.

Moving onto the playoff bracket ranked 3rd after pool play, Team Igloo posted victories over Pasco Lion (Florida), Stars and Stripes (Pennsylvania), and Long Island based rival Team 91 Bandits. Team 91 vs Igloo’s game had both Head Coaches who coach for the Long Island Lizards; with Head Coach of the Lizards Joe Spallina coaching Team 91, and Coach Keith Cromwell coaching the Team Igloo Arctic Blast.

After the win over a very talented Team 91 Bandits, Team Igloo was to face #1 ranked Arden Diamondbacks (Maryland) in the championship.   The Diamondbacks was the only team to post a victory in overtime versus Team Igloo in pool play so the championship was headed for another clash of titans.

Team Igloo started off strong in the championship game and never looked back. Posting a 9 to 3 Victory over the Diamondbacks to win Igloo back to back U11 National Championship victories. “What an experience for these boys, it’s not often you get a chance to play for a national championship regardless of how old you are. And we are just proud of our boys and parents, they deserved it, they worked hard” said Head Coach Cromwell.

Congrats to Henry Haberman for being named MVP of the Championship Game.  FB_IMG_1451600451138FB_IMG_1451600584186
